Capitalism continues in its glorious splendour.
There is of course nothing new to this story which appears below save the fact of cadmium poisoning being a newish form of poisoning due to work on batteries for PC's and other commodities. It used to be lead poisoning which battery workers were subjected to ,as well as plumbers and people in the building trade. Don't anyone get the idea that before this mad rush for growth in the Chinese economy, capitalism didn't exist. It did, in the form of state capitalism and continues in this way with a massive state intervention and some private enterprise also.
It matters little whether the economy is run by Maoist government officials or if it is "liberalised". The lot of workers will remain very constant, in the advanced economies or the emergent ones.Profit rules and lives are cheap, unless you own and control sufficient of the wealth in the first place you are doomed if born poor to die so with health results accordingly.
'Poisoned' Chinese workers sue
The women worked in nearby battery factories in Guangdong, according to state media.
Three people have reportedly died as a result of the cadmium poisoning, and others have fallen ill.
Vaporised cadmium can cause flu-like symptoms when inhaled, and in extreme cases can damage the kidneys.
Workplace health disputes are common in China, where safety levels are often lax.
